What Is An Instant Pot?

An Instant Pot is a device that cooks food in a fraction of the time. It can cook meat and vegetables in a matter of minutes or even seconds with steam.

Are you ready to create the ultimate 12-month blueprint for reaching your health & weight loss goals this coming year?

How to Lose Weight & Transform Your Health for Life

Our free on-demand video training will walk you through how to make 2024 THE year you set health goals…and keep them.

The Instant Pot was invented by Canadian product designer Michael Wang, who had the idea back in 1987. Wang used his skills as an electrical engineer to develop this device.

The Instant Pot was initially marketed only to Canadians, but it gradually became popular outside the country as well. You can buy one for as low as $60 on Amazon, making it perfect for anyone who wants to save time and money!

How Does An Instant Pot Cook So Fast?

The Instant Pot combines the cooking power of a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, and yogurt maker in one kitchen appliance. The timesaving kitchen gadget eliminates the need for you to purchase these appliances separately.

An Instant Pot cooks food significantly faster than other cooking methods. It uses up to 70% less energy than a conventional oven and helps you save time and money.

What Does 5:20 Mean?

Have you ever wondered why do all official images from Instant Pot have 5:20 on the clock?

When you say “5-2-0”out loud in Mandarin, Wang’s native language, it sounds like the phrase “I love you.â€

“It’s a subliminal message,”Wang says. “It shows how much we care about our customers.â€

Why Every One on the Keto Diet Needs an Instant Pot

You might have noticed that a lot of people are raving about the Instant Pot. Well, it’s because you’re really going to love it once you try it!

You can have an amazing low-carb and keto dinner on the table fast – often in less than 20-30 minutes. If you love your slow-cooker, you will become obsessed with your Instant Pot. You’ll get all that awesome flavour but in a fraction of the time!

The only problem is, there aren’t a lot of low-carb and keto Instant Pot recipes out there. Have you noticed that most Instant Pot recipes are for carb-loaded pasta, rice, risottos, and casseroles?!

To make it easier for you, I compiled this list of Instant Pot keto recipes from both my own site as well as my fellow low-carb websites. You’ll find everything from bone broth to chicken thighs and so much more! Trust me, these one pot meals are soon to be on your weekly rotation.

By the way, there are a lot of different Instant Pots on the market. Unsure which to get? Check out my guide to picking the perfect Instant Pot.

Why I Love My Instant Pot

I love my slow-cooker and fought the urge to buy yet-another-kitchen-gadget. But there are three reasons why I finally caved in and bought an Instant Pot.

  1. It is 7 appliances in one. A slow cooker, pressure cooker, steamer, yoghurt maker and frying pan, just to name a few.
  2. It will cook dinner in 30 minutes rather than slow-cooking all day (a lifesaver for the days I forget to pop the slow cooker on in the morning rush).
  3. You save money. It will turn any cheap cut of meat into a luxurious, tender, flavoursome meal.

It’s worth noting that there are a lot of different accessories out there for the Instant Pot too! Before you start adding them to your cart, however, I strongly suggest you read this guide to the 10 best Instant Pot accessories that are keto-friendly.

Can I Cook Frozen Meat in the Instant Pot?

If you are a meal prepper with a full freezer, you’ll be thrilled to know that chicken recipes can be cooked from frozen.

Beef can also be cooked from frozen with ease – and will turn out absolutely delicious.

Now, let’s dive into the Instant Pot keto recipes!

  1. I love the focus on easy here. Finding the time to cook well and eat good food is often more difficult than it seems. I always love finding solutions that make thing simplier.

  2. Hey there Libby….as you probably know, us Kiwi’s can’t get the Instant Pot locally in our neck of the woods yet. I saw a Crock-Pot Express Multi Cooker at half price locally the other day (the two are often compared on YouTube due to their similarities) so jumped on it because the functions all look very similar to the Instant Pot. Some of these recipes look very yummy indeed – but I’m wondering – can just use the same settings shown in the recipes for the Instant Pot on my Crock-Pot multi?

    1. I bought mine in Farmers, and it was 50% off – yay! It is a Russell Hobbs Digital Multi Cooker. it does everything an Instant Pot does and I absolutely love it.

      1. haha, that’s where I got the Crock Pot Multi from as well! I’ve done a little research on comparisons between Instant Pot and Crock Pot multi since and it looks like they are virtually identical in terms of cooking capability and outcome on the test recipes they used (except Yogurt is a little runnier but I use an easyo for that anyway). Once I have a few Instant Pot specific recipes under my belt with the Crock Pot Multi I’ll post some feed back anyways in case it helps others with the same question.

        1. Ok, have done some testing with my Crock Pot Multi – the only main difference I can see between the Instant Pot and Crock Pot Multi is that where a recipe calls for you to press the ‘Manual’ button on the Instant Pot, you have to use one of the pre-defined cook settings (eg Meat/Stew) on the Crock Pot and adjust the time from there. Doing so achieves the exact same result as using the ‘Manual’ button on the Instant Pot however and is just as easy to adjust time up or down. The cooking results from the Crock Pot are superb too! All the other features seem much the same as the Instant Pot; High or Low pressure, slow cooking, searing, steaming, yoghurt etc.
There are 2 things I really love about the Crock Pot however… 1. The non stick pot is super easy to clean compared to stainless steel, and 2. the heat up time from when you press start to when the Crock Pot Multi achieves full pressure is extraordinarily fast! I had access to an original Breville Pressure Cooker released several years back (BRP 200) which has many similar features and could also easily be used as an alternative for the Instant Pot too. I remember the longer time that took to reach full pressure. That said the cooking results were very much the same as what I’m achieving with the Crock Pot Multi today – so in conclusion, using an alternative brand pressure cooker for ‘Instant Pot’ recipes seems entirely no problem at all as the basic pressure cook features seem common across the many new alternatives coming on the market.

  3. Hi, where can i find the adjustments for low-carb family recipies where everyone has a different need.? Are their any base recipies that i could easily adjust for various allergies and intolerances too? ?

    Thanks heaps

    1. Most of the main meals and dinners may have some of their ingredients exchanged or substituted for others, but low-carb and keto recipes take quite some time developing them to get them just right. Baking, for example, cannot be substituted easily because low-carb flours behave completely different from one another. Coconut flour and almond flour are unique in their properties. Simple meals are the best and the easiest. I also have a meal planning service where you can set certain ingredients never to appear, so if someone is allergic to eggs, for example, you’ll ever see those recipes. You can see how it works here.
