The first Low Carb High Fat LCHF summit is taking place now, Feb 2015, in Capetown, South Africa. They have 16 of the very best low carb experts, scientists, doctors, and researchers from around the world. It is time to share the knowledge that “a diet based on food we did not eat for 99% of our time on earth is a fad”.
The LCHF summit will discuss the current food guidelines and how they are contributing to the worlds obesity and T2 diabetes crisis. Each speaker will discuss their area of expertise on LCHF and how the current low fat guidelines have influenced the rise in health problems today. They are collectively trying to debunk the myth that being fat is because you exercise too little and eat too much, yet there is no science behind this.
They want to improve the quality of the science of nutrition and obesity research. Taubes states the reasons of weight gain are clear –
- “the explanation is hormonal – the role of insulin that is released when the diet is high in carbohydrates and too low in saturated fat.”
- Calories in and calories out theory is wrong
- Carbohydrates are the cause of obesity and are also important causes of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and most of the so-called diseases of civilisation.
- A low fat diet is not healthy
- A low carb diet is essential both for weight loss and health
They offer an open invitation for debate to any scientists that believes LCHF is wrong and, doing harm, and have hard science to prove it, to come to the conference. It appears the sceptics are busy!
Speakers include Prof Tim Noakes (Real Meal Revolution) , Gary Taubes (Author Good Calories, Bad Calories), Andreas Eenfeldt (aka Diet Dr), Zoe Harcombe, Dr Eric Westman, Christine Cronau, Dr Ann Childers, Jimmy Moore, Gary Fettke, Dr Stephen Phinney.
Prof Tim Noakes was asked what he wants to achieve from the summit, he replies “The mainstream dietary advice that we are currently giving to the world has simply not worked. Instead, it is the opinion of the speakers at this summit that this incorrect nutritional advice is the immediate cause of the global obesity and diabetes epidemics. This advice has failed because it completely ignores the history of why and how human nutrition has developed over the past 3 million years.
“More importantly, it refuses to acknowledge the presence of insulin resistance (carbohydrate intolerance) as the single most prevalent biological state in modern humans. Persons with insulin resistance are at increased risk for developing a wide range of chronic medical conditions if they ingest a high carbohydrate diet for any length of time (decades).
Armed with this knowledge we have two choices. Either we can continue to ignore the evidence presented at this summit, and go on blaming the obese and diabetic for their sloth and gluttony (that is supposedly the sole cause of their obesity and diabetes). Or, if we are ever to reverse this epidemic that has become the greatest modern threat to human health, we need to admit that we have been wrong for the past 40 years, and must now change.”
